Abstract

|
The Purpose of this study is to investigate the longterm trend of family socioeconomic status over the family life cycle. The data used in this study were gathered in Mexico in 1986. The original data were transformed for discrete time methods by
FORTRAN program. Of the 633 households interviewed, age at first marriage and education of female head significantly increased since 1960s. Couples married before 1960s were less likely to be divorced at the early stage of marriage life than
lately
formed couples.
Overall, it is supported that the family variables are a function of time since marriage, and that the longterm trends of the family variables reflect nationwide societal phenomenon.
